I have been interested, practising and teaching massages for more than nine years so everything here comes from my own personal experience.

Part I: EXOTIC AND ORIENTAL MASSAGE

Hawaiian massage Lomi–lomi

Exotic and seducing massage comes from Hawaii islands. It is a great combination of sensual music, essential oil smells and massage technique using long harmonic moves of forearms and elbows and overall body of a masseur. Due to the fact the massage is done all over the receiver´s body and through therapist´s moves the massage will deeply relax you and also revitalize natural energy flow starting body and soul regeneration.

How does the massage work?

Hawaiian massage uses long rhythmic moves and aims at reconnecting and deep body relaxation. It starts with long moves along the spine, through which the erecting and deep back muscles are properly stretched. Then it relaxes the shoulder blades, shoulders and neck spine. It also does not omit bottom, loins and hips. Then there is a foot massage with long forearm moves focusing on stretching and relaxing femoral and fibular muscle groups. It finishes with a pleasant massage of bossom and hands.

Massage effects:

Hawaiian massage aims at whole body holistically; it works with physical symptoms such as tiredness or pain but also on spiritual soul level. Due to special Hawaiian moves, warming oils and rhythms the massage not only gets rid of stress, tension and irritations but fills you with positive energy and joy. On physical level it supports body detoxification, stimulates lymphatic system, relaxes and regenerates tired muscles and joints.

Curiosities:

In Hawaii the massage is practised as a ritual. The base comes from a traditional dance Lomi – Lomi, that is characteristic for using forearm moves during dancing. Lomi Lomi means a forearm in Hawaiian language.

Evaluation:

Hawaiian massage simply thrilled me! It is an exotic, sensual and seducing experience full of energy. We recommend it to all who need more joy and lightness in life.

Traditional Thai massage

It is one of the oldest massaging techniques combining meridian pressure massage reviving energy flow in body with elements of traditional Indian yoga. The massage comes from India and it belongs to the jewels of traditional Thai culture; it is over 2500 years old and was used also in medicine and as a service in temples.

How it works:

Thai massage is done on the ground without using oils; a man is dressed in short loose trousers and a shirt. The massage is done in the rhythm of breathing and with many moves starting with pushing meridians with thumbs and palms of a masseuse, then soft stretching and muscle, joint and sinew relaxation. The therapist uses thumbs, palms, elbows and feet using knowledge of anatomy and physiology and acupuncture points. A whole body from both sides is massaged in order to achieve a complex relaxation and stretching of all muscles. Contrary to others Thai massage starts with ritual washing of feet and includes also head and face massage. An ideal time of procedure is 1,5-2 hours and it is necessary to drink a lot of water later. It is an overall pleasant massage through sometimes the stretching can cause a bit of pain which should be manageable and pleasant sort and the effect is guaranteed!

Massage effects:

Traditional Thai massage helps prevent migraines, back pain, spine problems and insufficient body flexibility. It is appropriate for detoxification, relaxation of internal stress and tensions but also for a simple relaxation. It helps relieving from anxieties. Apart from the beneficial effects the massage also stimulates internal organ functions and supports correct body functions. It helps unblocking stiff muscles and mainly back and loins. It has similar effects as yoga if you practise it regularly leading to bodily flexibility and physical and mental harmony.

Curiosities:

Thai massage can be also done in form of oil massage. Oil massage is done on a futon without any clothes and it is more similar to classical massage. It uses essential oils and traditional Thai massage elements such as pressing acupressure points and stiff blocks in muscles. Also there exists queen Thai massage combining elements of traditional Thai massage, Oil massage and using warmth and herbal effects on human body. Here also belongs a massage done with hot herbal seals. The herbs are wrapped in hot textile cloths as a ball with a handle warmed in steam and it is put on human body under pressure. The warmth helps relieving stiff muscles so the queen massage is a very popular practice!

Evaluation:

Due to harmonising the rhythm of breathing I got naturally relaxed during the massage and relaxed in a different deeper way. It was a pleasant meditative experience, a kind of path towards inner me. I haven’t felt that stretched and flexible for ages! I can recommend the massage to everyone with sitting job and little movement and all suffering from spine issues and back pains.

Ayurveda massage (ABHYANGA)

Ayurveda massage has been a part of traditional Indian healing art Ayurveda for thousands of years. Ayurveda (translated as „science of life“) includes all human life areas as it perceives it holistically and if it aims at healing a person then it has to include habits, ways of life and thinking too. Medicine has been considered art in India; as a unique connection of science and intuition and empathy to a patient. Same as Ayurveda understands a man as a whole and Ayurveda massage is a complex means of relaxation of the whole body. The objective of the massage is harmonisation of body, soul and mind.

How it works:

Essentially Ayurveda massage uses a lot of sesame oil that opens pores and bounds toxins and heavy metals leading them away from the body. Along with physical moves that stimulate lymph it has detoxifying and healing effects. Ayurveda massage includes face and head massage as well as hair massage with sesame oil. Most often you get a massage of your back, neck, shoulders and hands. But if you take enough time for your massage, you can also experience bossom and breast massage. Overall the massage can be described as relaxing and caressing.

Through using a lot of sesame oil it also starts a long-term purifying process in the body. Much toxins and pathogens are being flushed away and immunity grows up. Also the state of complexion improves; the massage helps treating acne, eczemas and other skin problems and slows down aging processes of skin and the overall body. It helps with insomnia and anxiety. Generally the massage keeps your body healthy and your mind fresh.

Curiosities:

In Ayurveda centres you can also order additional Ayurveda procedures such as steam herbal baths or širodhara. A steam bath has a form of wooden box with a wooden stool inside. You sit down on a stool inside the box with only your head out. Herbal steam flows into the box and human body is beautifully purified and opens the pores. The whole procedure is very pleasant, supports and exaggerates effects of Ayurveda massage. A long tradition has also širodhara procedure. You lie in a wooden channel and in the middle of your forehead flows a thin stream of warm oil and your head is being softly massaged. Overall duration with relaxation is about 45 minutes. With širodhara there is also deep relaxation of nervous system, it helps preventing headaches, insomnia and many other issues. It re-balances your body. It is not recommended to combine širodhara with all body Ayurveda massage, because one is meant to revive you and the other calms you down so you rather enjoy each one separately in different days.

Evaluation:

The massage left me with deep regeneration and calming effects. In connection with the steam bath it was bliss. I recommend the massage to all who need a deep inner purification and find new resources.
